Tuscan borlotto bean
The Tuscan Boral Bean is a Traditional Agricultural Product (PAT) on the national list approved by the Ministry of Agriculture And Forestry, whose requirements are regulated by the production discipline of the Tuscany region.
Features
The Tuscan boral bean has intense wine red color with lighter streaks.
The peel has the typical consistency of the borlotto and varies depending on the types of soil.
Cultivation
It is sow in April-May, prefers loose soils and reacts well to nitrogen-potassic fertilization; is very sensitive to attacks by the afids.
The plant is at determined growth and forms two bean boxes; ripening is scalar, so it is mainly fresh.
The boral bean owes its tymen to the cultivar of local origin.
In the past, a soup made from chestnuts and borlotti was made in the mountains.
