Marconi bean with black seed
The black seedmarconi Marconi Bean is a Traditional Agricultural Product (PAT) on the national list approved by the Ministry of Agriculture And Forestry, whose requirements are regulated by the Region’s production regulations Tuscany.
Features
The black-seeded Marconi bean is a grass-fed bean; never forms the thread even at advanced maturation.
Cultivation
The sowing can be done in two different periods: at the end of April-early May, or in July; in the first case, since the minimum ripening cycle is 60 days, harvesting takes place at the end of June-early July, in the second to September.
The ripening is scalar, so the harvest lasts for a period of 40 days.
The variety is climbing and needs support; flowers are violets.
It needs fertile soil and irrigation; the most common pathologies are afidi, red spider and peronospora.
The pods are about 10-15 cm long and contain 5-6 ripe black grains; the characteristic of this green beans to eat in the grass is that at grain made it keeps tender and does not form the thread.
It is prepared boiled and toned with oil or cooked with tomato.
It was not possible to estimate the quantity actually produced since, being a production of a few hobbyists, it is intended exclusively for family consumption.
