Tuscan butter bean
The Tuscan Butter Bean is a Traditional Agricultural Product (PAT) on the national list approved by the Ministry of Agriculture And Forestry, whose requirements are regulated by the region’s production regulations Tuscany.
Features
This bean has a dark brown coloration; it is tender and delicate on the palate.
Cultivation
The sowing takes place in April and is in “postarella”.
It is a climbing plant, with a short ripening cycle, which requires fresh soil and therefore good irrigation.
The leaves are light green and opaque, the flowers white, the pods medium 160-170 mm long and about 12 mm wide, curved with an “S” shape.
The bean should be eaten fresh.
The traditionality of the product is linked to the local origin, and to the peculiarity of appearance and taste.
There is no major production reality in the Tuscan butter bean; it is mainly cultivated as a hobby and therefore intended for family consumption.
